Town Partners with @plasticfisherman for Creative Earth Day Event
As the dangers of plastic pollution continue to threaten our marine life and beach ecosystems, South Florida is on notice.
To combat the problem, the Town of Surfside will be partnering up with local activist Rodrigo Butori the @plasticfisherman on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the first ever Plastic Fishing Festival and Earth Day Resource Fair. The event will be held on the beach at 93rd Street and at the Surfside Community Center.
Local Surfside resident, environmentalist, and surfer Rodrigo Butori, started the the #plasticfishing movement organically on social media in 2020. The @plasticfisherman account has quickly racked up more than 19,000 followers on Instagram, employing art and creativity to create awareness about the marine plastic pollution problem and inspire action.
